The Upper Mangale Hydropower Project is located in the Myagdi district of the Western Development Region in Nepal. It is a diversion-type development where water from the Rahughat Mangale hydropower plant is diverted to the powerhouse of the Upper Mangale station. Through a left bank pressure diversion tunnel and penstock, water is supplied to the surface powerhouse for electricity generation.The total investment for the project is 71 million US dollars, with a designed discharge of 15.2m3/s and equipped with 2 units, installed capacity of 48.5MW. The project is expected to generate an average annual electricity output of 28.44 million kWh.
Loan for the project is provided by local banks in Nepal. Currently, the project is progressing smoothly, with 65% of the overall progress completed. It is anticipated to achieve commercial operation status by the second half of 2025.
